Rotary welcomes new fire chief

Speaker: Heath Reyzlik, Blair Volunteer Fire and Rescue

Heath Reyzlik, the new chief of Blair Volunteer Fire and Rescue, reported on the department's 2015 calls and explained his goals as chief. A full-time Omaha firefighter, Reyzlik has volunteered on Blair's department for about 10 years.

Blair fire and rescue combined responded to 836 calls in 2015, compared to 790 in 2014. It has a total of 50 members; three are rescue only.

To be a member of Blair Volunteer Fire and Rescue, volunteers must be able to attend Thursday night trainings and respond to 5 percent of calls.

Reyzlik said his goals are to implement a vehicle replacement plan and to test whether it's more efficient to use just the North Station instead of both North and South. This could speed up response times, he said.
