Submit a tip to help solve a crime

Speaker: Lt. Aaron Barrow, Blair Police Department

Lt. Aaron Barrow explained how the Blair Crime Stoppers program works. Started a few years ago, the service now allows the public to submit text and online anonymous tips to the Blair Police Department. Barrow said that the BPD receives tips via texting from youth "all of the time."

Crime Stoppers costs the BPD less than $2,000 per year. A seven-member board manages Crime Stoppers and authorizes payments to tipsters. It has only paid out one tip because most citizens refuse the money.

Barrow said that the service helped find the suspects who vandalized dozens of cars in 2015. A resident witnessed suspicious activity the submitted a tip.

To submit a tip to Blair Crime Stoppers, text "CRIMETIPS" to 274-637 ("CRIMES"). Tips may also be submitted on the BPD website: http://www.blairpolice.org/crimestoppers.php
