Rotary makes worldwide impact on polio

Speaker: Brian Moon, Rotary District 5650

Brian Moon, who will start as the district Rotary Foundation chairperson in July, talked about the history of the Rotary Foundation. It started in 1917. Its first donation was $26.50 from Rotary of Kansas City.

The Foundation gives global grants, including its first polio grant in 1979. The idea was to immunize 6 million children in the Philippines. Today, 10 polio cases remain in Pakistan and Afghanistan. The Foundation's goal is to eliminate polio by 2017.

"It has a tremendous impact on the world," Moon said of the Foundation.

District 5650 has a goal to raise $1 million for the Foundation for its 100th anniversary.
