Christ for cops

Speaker: Pastor Amy Krejcarek, chaplain, Good Shepherd Lutheran Community

Pastor Amy Krejcarek has been working with the Blair Police Department and Washington County Sheriff's Office to start a chaplaincy program. Krejcarek, who majored in religion and criminal justice in college, worked for two years at the Milwaukee Police Department before entering the seminary.

Krejcarek said that "spiritual and emotional danger far exceeds physical danger in law enforcement."

"It's the danger of forgetting what inspired the person to become an officer in the first place," she said.

She attended training for law enforcement chaplaincy programs and is expecting a swearing-in ceremony to take place in the next month. She has also participated in ride-alongs and Shop with a Cop.

The chaplaincy program would be all-volunteer, she said.

Backpack program

Rotary members will discuss the Blair Community Schools backpack program at the Tuesday, Aug. 11 meeting. Members will vote on whether to support the program, and how much to contribute.
