BPD lieutenant talks about city crime

Speaker: Lt. Aaron Barrow, Blair Police Department

Lt. Aaron Barrow of the Blair Police Department talked about the crime rate in the city. He said the department currently has 17 officers, including one who is at training.

Simple assaults, thefts and calls for service are up so far this year compared to last year. Drug crimes involving street drugs are more common. The BPD is seeing more meth, cocaine and some hallucinogens; however, pills are much less common than in the past, Barrow said.

Just a few years ago, Blair had a high number of pharmaceutical drug-related crimes, but the BPD's involvement with the Drug Enforcement Administration has helped curb drug trafficking, Barrow said.
